"Around us the mist cover was lifting, a slowly moving mosaic of silver light and cloud shadow, offset against brilliant tinges of green. It could have been dawn on the day of Genesis.... From our vantage point 2000 feet above the crater floor, scenes of unrivalled beauty were unfolding; a giant soda lake, like a dropped jewel, rimmed with pink flamingos, ancient Fever tree forests, fresh water and verdant grass lands."
- Jane Conyngham
Tanzania and its magnificent wildlife reserves, is East Africa at its best. Famous parks such as the Serengeti or the wonderful Ngorongoro Crater offer some of the best safari opportunities on the continent. While these two may be the best known of the country’s numerous parks and reserves, many others deserve a visit: These range from the small Gombe Stream National Park Chimpanzee Sanctuary bordering Lake Tanganyika to the vast (4 times bigger than the Serengeti) and virtually untouched Selous Game Reserve in the south-east of the country.
But game parks and wildlife are not all Tanzania has to offer: In the north, scaling the 5895 metre snow-capped peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa, is the goal of many visitors. On the coastline, hundreds of kilometers of white powdery beach is lapped by the waters of the warm Indian Ocean, with the exotically named islands off- shore, such as Zanzibar, Pemba and Mafia, ideal centers for deep sea fishing and scuba diving, as well as their historical value.
Ngorongoro Crater
As with the rest of East Africa, Tanzania is a beautiful country and well worth seeing.
