"Of the gladdest moments in life, methinks is the departure upon a distant journey into unknown lands. Shaking off with one mighty effort the fetters of habit, the leaden weight of routine, the cloak of many cares and the slavery of home - man feels once more happy. The blood flows with the fast circulation of childhood... afresh dawns the morn of life..."
- Richard Burton. Journal entry, December 2, 1856
Traditional Mobile Camping - A respite from world traumas
In East Africa, there is only one way to truly experience the call of the wild: a private camping safari operated in the long-established manner of a by-gone era. To hear a lion's roar in the distance, a bush baby's cry, the chirp of a cricket and the call of the night jar, all this and more, can only be enjoyed and appreciated on an exclusive traditional camping safari which gives you that wonderful feeling of experiencing the untamed African wilderness, away from the crowds in areas seldom visited by the conventional minibus tourist.
No private camping safari is complete without a high calibre professional safari guide to accompany you, who in many instances is an ex-professional hunter and his camp crew, whose knowledge and experience in bush lore is unsurpassed, and who ensures that your safety and comfort is uncompromised throughout your stay.
Vehicles used on such safaris are specially designed and equipped, with deep windows and roof hatches for photographic opportunities. The camping gear comprises fully equipped large twin bedded, insect-proof, double-fly tents with mosquito-netted windows and sewn-in ground sheet, and an attached en-suite dressing area, shower and toilet, ensuring maximum shade. Each individual verandah provides a refuge for moments of privacy and solitude.
Example of a typical day on safari
Each day is your own. The freedom of unrestricted set schedules and the freedom to plan what you would enjoy the most. After discussions with your host and guide, the day typically begins with an early morning wake up call when your personal tent attendant brings tea, coffee and biscuits to your tent.
The day commences with a game viewing drive across the plains as the sun appears over the horizon. After two hours or so, return to camp for a refreshing hot shower and a full English breakfast and the luxury of freshly baked bread each day. A few hours back in camp allows you to relax, paint, read or rest before lunch, or you may prefer to enjoy another game viewing drive and search for the unexpected. After lunch, a 'siesta' is the rule of the day, until tea is served at 3.30p.m. followed by a late afternoon game drive. Return to camp at sunset, for a hot shower, canapés and drinks around the camp fire, prior to a sumptuous dinner to suit every taste. Before turning in, a relaxing bedtime drink around the embers of the camp fire under the African canopy of stars listening to tales by your host about life in the African bush. Another exhilarating day in the African bush, hard to conceive, hard to imagine, unless it is personally experienced.
